ADMPS 3013 - HISTORIOGRAPHY OF EDUCATION
THE THEORY AND PRACTICE OF HISTORICAL RESEARCH IN EDUCATION ARE THE TWIN EMPHASES IN THIS COURSE. SUCH CONCEPTUAL IS SUES AS THE MEANING AND LOGIC OF HISTORY, THE PROBLEM OF CAUSATION, THE PERILS OF GENERALIZATION, AND THE CENTRALITY OF INTERPRETATION ARE ANALYZED. SUCH METHODOLOGICAL TOPICS AS THOSE RELATED TO THE COLLECTION, VERIFICATION, AND ORGAN IZATION OF HISTORICAL EVIDENCE ARE STUDIED. THE WORKS OF MAJOR 20TH CENTURY AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL HISTORIANS ARE EX AMINED FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING SOME PERSPECTIVE ON THE PROCESS OF WRITING HISTORY.
