An article written by Nermeen El Nokali, Heather Bachman, and Elizabeth Votruba-Drzal is in the Top 10 Article Downloads on the Society for Research in Child Development’s (SRCD) website, with more than 2,200 retrievals. The title of the paper is "Parent Involvement and Children’s Academic Achievement and Social Development in Elementary School" and was featured in the May/June 2010 volume of Child Development.

El Nokali is a doctoral student in the University of Pittsburgh's School of Education, where Bachman works as an associate professor in the Psychology in Education Department, and Votruba-Drzal is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at the School of Arts and Sciences. The findings indicated that when parents increased their visits to the elementary school and encouraged educational progress at home that their children’s problem behaviors decreased and social skills improved. However, parents’ involvement did not affect children’s growth in achievement, and these findings did not significantly differ for lower- and higher-income children and families. The paper was El Nokali’s pre-dissertation project and stems from a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development grant awarded to Bachman and Votruba-Drzal.

The top 10 listing is available on the SRCD’s website, and the article can be viewed here.
