University of Pittsburgh Celebrates 225th Anniversary

Published on 3/7/2012 7:00:00 AM

Following the School of Education’s 100th anniversary celebration in 2010, the University of Pittsburgh will be celebrating 225 years of ‘Building Better Lives’ throughout 2012 at various events and functions. Pitt has developed a Web site dedicated to the most notable events and accomplishments in the school’s storied history, offering a steady stream of new stories and celebration highlights during the year. The School of Education will be gathering stories and memories from alumni to feature on its site as well.

See Pitt's Original Charters
The original front pages of the state charters that established The Pittsburgh Academy (1787) and Western University of Pennsylvania (1819) have been painstakingly restored by Pitt preservationists and will soon be on display at Hillman Library, as will a larger exhibition on Pitt history.

225 Acts of Caring
Pitt plans to serve the community with 225 Acts of Caring in 2012. Projects are being developed by Pitt schools and other units, and in collaboration with Pitt's community partners. Faculty, staff, students, and alumni can register on the Community Relations Web site to volunteer for projects.
