The School of Education is no longer accepting applications for this program.
There are two certification options in the post-baccalaureate Education of Students with Mental and Physical Disabilities specialization. One option is for teacher certification only; the second option combines teacher certification with the Master of Education (MEd) degree.
This option is a professional degree for MPD graduate students who wish to pursue advanced study in the field. Individuals who wish to pursue this option complete 12 additional credits beyond certification course work. These credits include courses in the Basic Areas of Education (9 credits) and a Research Seminar in Special Education (3 credits).
In the last term of the MPD program, it is required that all MEd candidates sign up to take a 3-hour, written comprehensive exam scheduled in March of each year. In addition, all teacher certification candidates in MPD are required to submit a professional portfolio at the end of the student teaching practica.
