Admissions for Foreign Language Education - Master of Education (MEd)
Admissions Requirements
- Completed School of Education Admissions Application.
- A non-refundable application fee of $50 (USD) by credit card, check, or money order payable to 'University of Pittsburgh'.
- Complete individual transcripts of work done in all undergraduate and graduate study. An overall minimum QPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in undergraduate work is required.
- Official, third-party evaluation of all international transcripts for applicants who have not received a master's degree within the United States. We strongly recommend using World Education Services (WES) to complete this service.
- Three letters of recommendation from professional persons in the field of education familiar with the applicant's teaching experience.
- A written statement of career goals and degree objectives.
- Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not received an academic degree from an accredited institution in the United States are required to provide evidence of English proficiency in one of the following ways:
- MEd Only: a minimum score of 550 (80 on the IBT or 213 on the computer-based test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Band 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
- MEd with TESOL: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 100 IBT overall (250 on the CBT) (Skill requirements: Reading and Listening – High; Speaking and Writing – one skill must be at the level of 'Good') or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 7.5 overall (Skill requirements: Speaking and Writing – combined minimum of 13).
Deadlines
- Fall Deadline: Rolling admissions; however, priority given to applications received by March 1
- Spring Deadline: Rolling admissions; however, priority given to applications received by November 1
- Summer Deadline: Rolling admissions; however, priority given to applications received by March 1
