The School of Education has a 'rolling admissions' policy which assures that all completed applications will be given regular review for possible admissions. However, priority for admissions and financial aid decisions will be given to those applications that are sent in by the recommended deadlines listed below.
Admissions Requirements
- Completed School of Education Admissions Application.
- A non-refundable application fee of $50 (USD) by credit card, check, or money order payable to 'University of Pittsburgh'.
- Complete transcripts of work done in undergraduate or graduate study (an overall minimum QPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for students without a master's degree and a 3.3 in previous graduate work for students with a master's degree is required).
- Official, third-party evaluation of all international transcripts for applicants who have not received a master's degree within the United States. We strongly recommend using World Education Services (WES) to complete this service.
- General Test scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). The combined verbal/quantitative score on the GRE is expected to be at least 1100.
- Designation of preferred track: part-time (12-17 credits per year) or full-time (18 or more credits per year)
- A written statement of career goals (click to view guidelines for personal goal statement).
- Official score report from ETS, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 550 (or 213 for computer-based) from all applicants whose native language is not English and/or who have not completed an academic degree in a English-medium college or university. The TOEFL Institution code for the University of Pittsburgh is 2927; the Department code for Education is 85.
- Evidence of 12 credits in undergraduate or graduate psychology or research methodology.
- Sample of applicant's professional writing in the form of a completed term paper, master's thesis, article, etc.
- Three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant's academic and professional work.
