Admissions for Applied Developmental Psychology - Master of Science (MS)

The School of Education has a "rolling admissions" policy which assures that all completed applications will be given regular review for possible admissions. However, priority for admissions and financial aid decisions will be given to those applications that are sent in by the recommended deadlines listed below. Note that the MS in Applied Developmental Psychology program admits students for the fall term only.

Admissions Requirements

  • Completed School of Education Admissions Application.
  • A non-refundable application fee of $50 (USD) by credit card, check, or money order payable to 'University of Pittsburgh'.
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate work.
  • Official, third-party evaluation of all international transcripts for applicants who have not received a master's degree within the United States. We strongly recommend using World Education Services (WES) to complete this service.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. A baccalaureate degree in social science (e.g., child development, education, sociology, psychology, anthropology) is preferred. However, students holding degrees in natural sciences, health care, or liberal arts are also encouraged to apply.
  • A QPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale is required. Applicants who fall below this standard may be considered for provisional graduate status if very strong supporting evidence of their ability to complete a graduate program is provided.
  • Fulfillment of all prerequisites.
  • A two to four page written statement of professional experiences, career goals, and interests that includes specific identification of the program concentration(s) in which you may be interested.
  • Three letters of recommendation from professionals who can attest to your academic achievement/potential for graduate study and/or professional work. Personal references (e.g. from family members, friends, and/or casual acquaintances) are not considered appropriate.
  • Scores from the TOEFL for all applicants who are citizens of a country where English is not the official language of that country. The University of Pittsburgh requires a minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the Internet-based Test (iBT) or 550 on the Paper-based Test (PBT) for admission.

Deadlines

  • Fall Deadline: Rolling admissions; however, priority given to applications received by March 1. (This program admits students for the fall term only.)
