Admissions for Research Methodology - Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Admissions Requirements

  • Completed School of Education Admissions Application.
  • A non-refundable application fee of $50 (USD) by credit card, check, or money order payable to 'University of Pittsburgh'.
  • Complete individual transcripts of work done in all undergraduate and graduate study (a minimum QPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale for previous graduate work is required).
  • A writing sample (term paper, thesis, article).
  • Official, third-party evaluation of all international transcripts for applicants who have not received a master's degree within the United States. We strongly recommend using World Education Services (WES) to complete this service.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test scores (recommended but not required of international students).
  • A statement of career goals.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum score of 213 on the computer-based TOEFL is required for admission to graduate study. (The requirement to take TOEFL may be waived if the applicant has received a satisfactory score on other tests of English proficiency or has received a degree from an accredited institution in the United States.)
  • a personal interview is recommended, though not necessary

  • Fall Deadline: Rolling admissions; however, priority given to applications received by March 1
  • Spring Deadline: Rolling admissions; however, priority given to applications received by November 1
  • Summer Deadline: Rolling admissions; however, priority given to applications received by March 1
