The Assistant Vice President for Student Equity and Diversity provides leadership,
education and coordination of all student diversity support programs and initiatives
managed by the University of Utah¹s Office for Equity and Diversity.
The Assistant Vice President for Student Equity and Diversity has direct supervision
over the directors of the following student centers:
· Center for Ethnic Student Affairs (CESA)
· Undergraduate Diversity Scholarships Office
· American Indian Resource Center (AIRC)
· Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center
These centers house programs that serve approximately 3,000 students annually who
self-identify as LGBT and/or historically underrepresented students of color,
including African American, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Chican@/Latin@, and
American Indian students.
This position is expected to enhance collaborative relationships and partnerships
with a variety of campus units, including the Division of Student Affairs,
Undergraduate Studies, Academic Outreach, academic departments and colleges and
other offices that can support the success of LGBT and historically underrepresented
students of color. This position will provide support for major University cultural
awareness events and educational programs, including the annual Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. Celebration, Women¹s Week events and Days of Remembrance events.
The Assistant Vice President for Student Equity and Diversity reports directly to
the Associate Vice President for Equity and Diversity, represents him/her when
necessary and performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
· A Doctorate in Higher Education or closely related field from an
accredited institution. Demonstrated experiential and theoretical knowledge of
successful recruitment, retention, and graduation strategies for historically
underrepresented college students of color and LGBT students.
· Experience working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds and
demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for historically
underrepresented students of color and LGBT students.
· Five years of senior leadership, supervisory and management experience in
at least two college student support programs for historically underrepresented
students, including African American, Asian American, Pacific Islander,
Chican@/Latin@, and American Indian college students.
· Experience with higher education resource allocation systems and budget
management.
· Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural and verbal/written communication
skills.
· Must demonstrate a high degree of problem-solving and organizational
skills.
