All School of Education students enrolled in a degree or certificate program are assigned an academic advisor (listed on your letter of acceptance). If you are unsure who your advisor is, please contact the Office of Admissions and Enrollment at 412-648-2230, and we will look up this information for you.
Your advisor is a faculty member whose area of expertise matches your program of study and your academic interests. You should schedule meetings with your advisor throughout your studies to determine what courses you need to take, and ensure that you are on track to fulfill your program requirements. In addition, your advisor is someone you can look to for advice on research practices, information on internships and funding opportunities, guidance on thesis or dissertation writing, and similar topics.
If you find that your advisor isn’t a strong match for your academic goals, you have the right to select a new one. To do so, you will need to obtain a "Change of Advisor" form from the Office of Admissions and Enrollment (5500 Posvar Hall). The form must be completed by you, taken to your previous and new advisor for signatures, and then returned to 5500.
