LEADERS Handbook of Early Literacy Strategies and Activities

Time: 10-15 minutes
Group Style: Whole group
Grade Level: K-2

Rationale

The purpose of this activity is to give students the opportunity to practice spelling or vocabulary words.

Materials

  • Index cards
  • Markers

Procedure

  1. As a part of the spelling routine, after reading the word and writing the word, students spell the word using their silly voice.
  2. Some ideas for silly voices:
happy, sad, angry, animals, underwater, quiet, giant, echo

Teacher Comments

This activity will motivate both students and teachers. Even students in grade 3 like to do this. They like to come up with their own voices.
