Course Description - IL 1901

 

IL 1901 - NATURE OF THE YOUNG CHILDREN

THIS COURSE FOCUSES ON THE NATURE OF THE CHILD SO AS TO EN ABLE THE STUDENT TO DEVELOP AN INFORMED PHILOSOPHICAL FRAME WORK WITH WHICH TO MAKE EDUCATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER. STUDENTS WILL READ FROM A VARIETY OF SOURCES TO ESTABLISH A KNOWLEDGE BASE WITH REGARD TO THE YOUNG CHILD. PRACTICAL, GUIDED ACTIVITIES WILL ENABLE STU DENTS TO DEVELOP THE BASIS FOR SUBSEQUENT WORK IN THEORETI CAL AND PRACTICAL VENUES WITH REGARD TO THE YOUNG CHILD, THE DEVELOPMENT OF SELF-ESTEEM, THE ROLE OF PLAY IN DEVELOPMENT, THE TEACHER'S OBSERVATIONAL SKILLS AND TEACHING PHILOSOPHY.
