Support the School

Gifts from alumni and friends have helped to establish our University as one of the finest worldwide.

One major goal of the School of Education is to produce the very best education professionals at every level from early childhood through higher education. In addition, we want to make a difference regionally, nationally, and internationally, through our research and service efforts and through the training of education scholars.

Support to the School of Education has made many accomplishments possible, such as:

  • U.S. News and World Report consistently ranks the School of Education in its group of top graduate education programs. Most recently, the school was listed in rankings by U.S. News as the 34th amoung 189 graduate education programs. In addition, the school was tied for 19th in U.S. News' ratings of education programs by major superintendents and tied for 30th in similar ratings by deads of education schools. In funded research, the School of Education was ranked 32nd.
  • The School of Education hired new faculty in the areas of English/language arts, foreign language teaching, school leadership, international comparative studies, health and fitness education, social studies education, and science education. These new scholars - from Stanford, Brown, Berkeley, Wisconsin, Carnegie Mellon, Toronto, and Penn State - represent an important next step in securing our school's future.
  • The teacher preparation program continues to grow and advance with new uses of video technology and better connections between faculty and teachers to mentor students during their internships and student teaching assignments.

Providing the best possible learning opportunities - as well as supporting and expanding research capabilities - is a promise that our University must keep.

The University of Pittsburgh is already envied as one of the nation's most respected providers of high-quality ecucation. But our work is not finished. Pitt is experiencing a time of rapid and extraordinatry progress. Your support is essential in our efforts to reach the University's full potential.
