EARLY CHILDHOOD AIDE POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
ESL family literacy center in Green Tree needs a fun, reliable early childhood education aide, 15-20 hours per week, starting in late August. Aide will be responsible for a small multi-age early childhood classroom for refugee children. With supervision, she or he will plan and teach developmentally appropriate lessons from approved curricula; plan and direct crafts and activities; and assist with family literacy programming for young children and their caregivers. Children's caregivers will be on the premises at all times. Training and support will be provided. Previous experience working with children age 0-5 is required. See below for details.
 
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-          Copies of current Pennsylvania child abuse clearance and criminal background check. (Will be provided by the agency.)
-          Previous experience with children 5 and younger (child care professional, preschool or kindergarten teacher, nanny, stay-at-home parent).
-          Reliable transportation; car preferred.
-          High school diploma or GED. At least some college preferred. 
-          Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
-          Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration with staff, volunteers, and families.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-          Care for and play with young children, ages 0-5, in an apartment-based ESL family literacy class for refugees.
-          Plan and implement developmentally appropriate early childhood education lesson plans by using, adapting, and expanding approved curricula.
-          Plan and implement developmentally appropriate crafts and activities.
-          Assist in the planning and implementation of Interactive Literacy Activities (ILAs) for the ESL family literacy class.
-          Assist with biannual developmental assessments for young children.
-          Set up children's classroom before 9:30 family literacy class.
-          Supervise daily clean-up of children's classroom with children and parents.
-          Organize, clean, and maintain storage closet of children's toys.
-          Perform other relevant tasks as assigned by supervisor.
