Research Scientist In Area Of Educational Technology and Human-Computer Interaction
The National Research Center for Teaching and Learning (NRC) at the University of Phoenix, invites applications for the position of Research Scientist in the NRC's Cognition and Learning Group (CLG). This is a full-time research position at the postdoctoral level or above. The newly established NRC is located in San Francisco, where the candidate will work in the company of other researchers and analysts exploring related fields.
As a part of the CLG, the successful candidate will help execute the NRC's annual research agenda, conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses on data from existing databases, observations, interviews, surveys, and class artifacts; will develop and test data collection instruments; will apply advanced analytical and/or statistical methods related to project work; will design, implement , and communicate results of research projects consistent with the mission and
research agenda of the NRC; will develop a plan for publication and presentation of findings via scholarly journals and conferences; will supervise and mentor research assistants working on associated projects; will synthesize relevant research literature as appropriate; and will contribute to the preparation of reports and presentations on research findings for both external and internal audiences.
Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in a field requiring the application of cognitive science to teaching and learning, with research experience in educational technology development, human-computer interaction, and and/or information science;; must have a record of publication and professional presentations and a demonstrated ability to supervise doctoral-level researchers and research staff; possess oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate
research rationale, method, and results to the University community and diverse external audiences, and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on teams; possess the ability to communicate complex and technical information or persons with non-research related backgrounds, including presenting research findings, reports, and recommendations to executive and senior management and other external parties; possess the ability to organize work and meet deadlines across multiple projects, as well as initiative
and flexibility in adapting to a quantitative research methodology, including a working knowledge of the analytical software packages to design and conduct analyses, mine databases, interpret advanced statistical data, and prepare reports for both professional and lay audiences. Possible areas of specialization may include but are not limited to the following: informatics, human-computer interaction, educational data mining, learning in online environments, multimedia design, social media,
computer-supported collaborative learning, etc.
