This position is open to University of Pittsburgh students only.

The School of Education Technology and Media Services Department has several technical positions available for current University of Pittsburgh students to work 20 hours per week and up to 37.5 hours during the summer and term breaks. Several shifts are available with hours from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Lab Consultants are the first point of contact for School of Education patrons seeking technical assistance for lab related issues. They serve as members of the Technology Department by providing technical support and maintaining the smooth operation of the School of Education Technology lab facilities. Salary is based on knowledge and experience. These positions require highly dependable and responsible individuals who possess the following skills:

  • Ability to provide technical support; good customer support skills, professional demeanor;
  • Good written/verbal communication skills and good customer service skills
  • Friendly presence and helpful attitude; good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Good organizational skills for scheduling, training users and delivering equipment
  • Hardware and software troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with the University's e-mail system (web portal), general productivity applications such as Microsoft Office 2003/XP, scanning software, Internet tools, etc.
  • Knowledge of installing and troubleshooting hardware and software on Windows XP and Macintosh OS X computers

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Primary responsibility is to provide assistance to the patrons utilizing the lab facilities.
  • Respond to questions from callers and walk-ins with technology problems in classrooms and computer labs.
  • Learn fundamental operations of commonly used software, hardware, and other equipment.
  • Analyze problems and procedures to find creative, logical and effective solutions
  • Diagnosing computer related problems
  • Reporting computer hardware and software problems and lab activity
  • Assisting faculty during classroom instruction
  • Maintaining the lab as a clean and orderly facility
  • Making deliveries/providing courier service

Students majoring in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, or with extensive technical backgrounds are preferred for this position. If you are interested in applying, please fill out the online application linked below.
