Students Meghan Murphy, Joe DeGroot and Anne Cannon discuss the impact of the digital video project on preparing teachers in the student lounge. The Digital Video Project is designed to utilize digital video technology in recording exemplary models of teaching for use in methods courses and instruction in Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and Professional Year (PY) programs for aspiring school teachers.
Meghan originally from Charleroi, PA graduated with a BS and MS degree in Biology from Bucknell University. At Pitt Meghan was originally a Research Specialist in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry. Currently she is a doctoral student and graduate research assistant in Higher Education Management, Department of Administrative and Policy Studies. In her spare time she is a part-time science faculty member at Robert Morris University. Her
research interest and area of dissertation study is the use of instructional technology across disciplines.
Joe DeGroot graduated from Pitt with a BA in Humanities and acquired a Film Studies certificate. Using his knowledge gained from his certificate, he is currently the Technical Advisor for the Digital Video Project and helps coordinate the implementation of the newest technologies in digital video equipment and computer software into the routines of MAT interns and PY students, their cooperating teachers, and their supervisors as they work towards teacher certification in public school classrooms. He
manages the maintenance of the equipment and helps facilitate its distribution to the supervisors who are in charge of the videotaping. Joe also assists supervisors, interns and PY students with making the most of their videotaped lessons through the use of Apple editing and DVD-creating software. Currently Joe is enrolled in the MAT program in elementary education and will be an intern in a 5th grade classroom in the Franklin Regional School District.
Anne Cannon completed her Bachelor's degree in Political Science at Utah State University and is a Master in Education (MEd) student in Foreign Language Education, Department of Instruction and Learning. In addition to the MEd Anne is also completing a Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate. Anne is currently a research assistant for the Digital Video Project.
