Thomas Foerster Family Support Training Center

Based on the belief that ongoing training and networking will enhance the knowledge and challenge the creativity of staff and families, the purposes of the Family Support Resource and Training Center are to promote staff, family and community development, and foster opportunities for the development of partnerships within and between staff, families, and community groups.

The Family Support Resource and Training Center was established to serve as the central convener, facilitator, and coordinator of cross-program training and networking activities for all Allegheny County Family Support Centers and programs. Training needs are assessed on an ongoing basis for the development of training and networking sessions open to all Family Support staff, families and community members.

The operation of the Center is modeled after the principles and practices of a Family Support Center, in that the Family Support Training Coordinator works as a partner with Family Support staff to identify the areas which should be addressed through training to networking. Staff strengths are built upon as they are encouraged to develop and present training and networking sessions based upon their individual areas of expertise and commitment. The Center has meeting space for up 40 people and a circulating library which includes books, audio and video tapes on Family Support and related topics.
