Recent Collaborative Efforts
- Program or Teaching
- External Collaborative Efforts - The newly redesigned K-12 Principal certificate program will be available to aspiring school leaders in Western Pennsylvania through partnerships with Intermediate Units and University of Pittsburgh regional campuses. Our first two cohorts will open at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown beginning in the summer of 2009.
- Internal Collaborative Effort - The core teaching team of the newly redesigned K-12 Principal certificate program in the School Leadership Program will be distinguished academicians, educators, researchers, authors, and practitioners in their respective fields. Representing various disciplines, they are close to practice through relationships with school districts and Intermediate Units and through personal involvement as consultants in school districts nationally and around the world.
We are working closely with several University research and practice Institutes, Centers, and Partners that inform the design, delivery, and evaluation of the certificate, including:
Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, Center for Executive Education focuses on evidence-based management, strategic development and implementation, continuous and sustainable improvement, decision making and problem solving, negotiations and conflict management, and time management strategies.
Institute for Learning (IFL) focuses on the importance of literacy learning in the disciplines rather than as the product of generic strategies.
Learning Research and Development Center focuses on research on teaching and learning and its application in partnerships with educators, business and government, and non-profit organizations to reform and improve instruction and learning.
Learning Policy Center focuses on research that examines the “teaching and learning” practices that occur inside schools, classrooms, central offices, boardrooms and state capitols.
Urban Education Center fulfills the School of Education mission by focusing on teacher and school leader preparation, research, and service on Urban Education
Watson Institute/Pittsburgh Public Schools/School of Education creates an ideal interdisciplinary laboratory where Watson practitioners and Pitt students and faculty can create new models for serving children with serious behavioral and learning challenges.
