Professor Lane has been a faculty member in the Research Methodology Program at the University of Pittsburgh since the fall of 1986. Her research focus is on educational measurement and testing, including test design and validation, design and technical issues related to large-scale assessments and performance-based assessements, applications of item response theory and generalizability theory, and differential item functioning. She has taught beginning and advanced courses in measurement and statistics. She was the President of the National Council on Measurement in Education and Vice President of Division D (Methodology) of the American Educational Research Association. She is on the editorial boards of a number of measurement journals and is a member of a number of Technical Advisory Panels for state assessment systems (KY, NY, NJ, PA, DE). Professor Lane was also a member of the Joint Committee on Revision of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. She has been the Principal Investigator on several large grants examining the validity of large-scale assessment systems. Her publications have appeared in the Journal of Educational Measurement, Applied Measurement in Education, Educational Assessment, Educational Measurement: Issues and Practices, and other education journals.
