- Center for Urban Education
The Center for Urban Education serves as an important school liaison to the regional K-12 educational community, leading the school's initiatives in urban education research, training, and practice. The center's mission is to research and disseminate methods for improving urban education in the Pittsburgh region and nationally.
- The Educational Leadership Initiative (ELI)
The Educational Leadership Initiative provides comprehensive, integrated professional development designed to support a school culture focused on student learning and built upon a foundation of shared leadership. Our philosophy of shared leadership is practiced through the work of “vertical” leadership teams (teachers, principals, central office, and superintendent of each district) that focus on data-informed problem solving and decision-making to improve teaching and learning.
- Institute for Higher Education Management (IHEM)
The Institute for Highter Education Management (IHEM) was established in 1999 to serve as a forum for professional communication among leaders of higher education throughout western Pennsylvania, and to serve as a catalyst for change in the management of higher education.
- Institute for International Studies in Education (IISE)
Comprised of a group of faculty and professionals working on doctoral degrees at the University of Pittsburgh, IISE builds on the School's involvement in educational development projects and research all over the world. Through the institute, faculty and professionals from the U.S. and overseas pursue institutional focus on such areas as Elementary and Secondary Education Policy, Planning, Management and Evaluation; Higher Education Policy, Planning, Management and Evaluation; Curriculum Reforms and
Textbook Production; Educational Testing and Assessment; Participatory Planning for Educational Renewal; Teacher Development through Active Learning; Decision-Oriented Research; and Distance Education.
- Learning Policy Center (LPC)
The Pittsburgh Center for Learning Policy is a university-wide center with the mission of advancing ideas that encompass both education policy and learning theories. Despite the fact that learning is at the heart of current education policy debates, most educational policy research does not draw upon learning theories to understand why change in instructional practice is so difficult. Nor does this research examine how contemporary learning theories might provide leverage for practical education
change.
- Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC)
Since its founding in 1963, researchers at LRDC have sought to describe what learning is, where and how it happens best, how it can improve, and how research can help. LRDC scholars from several disciplines have contributed substantially to knowledge about human cognition, learning, and effective schooling and training. Research findings are applied, in collaboration with education practitioners and business and government enterprises, to the reform and improvement of instruction and training in
schools and workplaces.
- Office of Child Development (OCD)
The University of Pittsburgh Office of Child Development works in partnership with faculty and the community to enhance the welfare of children, youth, and families.
