Community Services and Facilities

We help community members and families live healthier lives, and we strive to foster children's learning and development. Following are our community service programs.

  • America on the Move (AOM)
Pittsburgh on the Move is a School of Education, community-wide initiative to improve the health of individuals in our region. The focus is on small, realistic changes to eating habits and physical activity. Collaborating with UPMC Health Plan and KDKA-TV, the goal is to create a sustainable, area-wide intervention to reduce risk of chronic disease and to improve the health-related quality of life.
  • Basic Physical Education
The University of Pittsburgh has charged the Basic Physical Education Project to provide specific services to its population. Physical education makes its contribution through the use of vigorous muscular activity. The individual's needs are our first consideration. The harmonious development of his/her mental, emotional, and physical being is the cornerstone of our philosophy.
  • Community Fitness Project
The University of Pittsburgh Physical Education Department offers non-credit courses to the community each semester. The project offers instruction in aquatics, fitness, and lifetime carry-over activities. Classes are offered as per the time schedule at Trees Hall on the University of Pittsburgh Campus.
  • Community Leisure-Learn Program
For more than 35 years, the Community Leisure-Learn Program has provided activity-related opportunities and access to Pitt's facilities for thousands of youth and adults. CLL offerings for children include a summer camp, which serves youth from economically disadvantaged areas; Saturday's Kids; and PAWS (pitt Athletes Working with Students), a mini sports camp. Adult programs include providing passes to use the recreational facilities at Trees Hall and Collaborating with other organizations to provide activity programs throughout the community.
  • Kinder Kinetics
Kinder Kinetics is designed to meet the motor development needs of children ages 3 to 12 years (including special needs children). The program is unique in that it provides physical education and aquatic instruction to children in an inclusive setting. Each child will receive 45 minutes of instruction in gym and swim classes. At the end of each session all children are given evaluation cards that provides information as to what they learned and what they are ready to learn next
