Curriculum - Fitness Option

Students specializing in fitness are prepared for a variety of careers in the health/fitness arena. Students are provided knowledge in areas such as physiology of exercise, nutrition, anatomy, sport conditioning, and fitness instruction. A practicum and internship presents students with the opportunity to apply learned skills in a practical setting.

  • You may study Fitness by completing the Fitness option of the Bachelor of Science degree, or the Fitness Minor.
  • The option will prepare students to earn various certifications that are now becoming requirements for fitness related positions. The student would be eligible to earn 13 professional certifications including the following: American College of Sports Medicine Health Fitness Instructor (HFI) exam, or the National Strength and Conditioning (CSCS) exams.
  • Potential career opportunities include: Adult Fitness, Fitness or Wellness Director, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Worksite wellness programming, or Pediatric/Geriatric health and fitness.
