University of Pittsburgh School of Education

Dance Minor

The dance minor option prepares students to assume roles in dance education, dance performance and production. Students are provided knowledge in areas such as basic anatomy/kinesiology, pedagogy, history, production, ballet, modern and jazz dance technique. The students' interests are refined and explored in the two required teaching experiences which present students with the opportunity to demonstrate learned skills in a practical setting.

The Pitt Dance Ensemble is a registered University group, whose purpose is to promote dance as an art form. The Dance Ensemble provides dance minors with additional opportunities to perform, choreograph, teach and attend weekly classes taught by local and national dance professionals. The Dance Ensemble also provides students with opportunities to attend local, state and regional dance conventions.
