Disrupt and Transform Inequitable Educational Structures

The University of Pittsburgh School of Education has a long history of providing training and producing new knowledge in education policy. All around the world, our graduates are creating, assessing, and reimagining the policies and guidelines that shape and drive educational practices at local, national, and global levels.

Drawing on our expertise in diverse disciplines including sociology, anthropology, philosophy, organization science and more, we offer a transdisciplinary perspective that is both rigorous and relevant. We study the systems, policies, frameworks, methods, and forms of engagements that can contribute to a more just and equitable society and improve learning outcomes for learners of all ages. Our faculty engage in research to transform educational structures, policies, and practices. Faculty have expertise in a range of research methodologies, theories, and partnerships spanning local, national, and international education contexts

We offer degree programs at the master’s and doctoral level in education policy. Students can pursue a general course of studies in education policy or opt to pursue an Area of Concentration (ARCO) in order to develop further expertise in a specific discipline.
