JERRY Longo
Emeritus Clinical Associate Professor

Dr. Jerry Longo has had a lengthy career as an English teacher, principal, central office administrator, school superintendent and professor. He was superintendent in the Steel Valley and the Quaker Valley School Districts, for 7 and 15 years respectively. Longo also served 6 years on the Pennsylvania State Board of Education where he played a leadership role in a major reform of the state's curriculum standards. He has taught graduate classes at California University of Pennsylvania on Strategic Leadership and Technology in Education. Currently, he is an associate professor in the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh where he teaches courses in school leadership and directs two field-base organizations, the Western Pennsylvania Forum for School Superintendents and the Collaborative for Assistant School Superintendents.

Longo was chosen as the 1997 Pennsylvania Superintendent of the Year, the 1995 Tri-State Area Study Council's Distinguished Educator, the recipient of the 2004 AASA President's Technology Award, A 1996 Distinguished Alumni of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, a recipient of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators’ EI/John Kresovich Award for Innovation in Instruction and Use of Technology, the 2006 Pennsylvania Music Educator's Superintendent of the Year and the 2007 Western Pennsylvania Library Association Advocate awardee.

Longo is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, Year IV. He has served on the Board of Three Rivers Connect and was chairperson of the education committee. For over a decade he served as an officer and board member for ASSET, Inc., a model inquiry-based science program. He is a past member of the Middle States Association’s Domestic Advisory Committee. Presently, he is a member of the Board of Visitors for the School of Education and Social Sciences at Robert Morris University.

Dr.Longo has studied leadership issues at the Norham Centre for Leadership Studies at St. Peter's College, Oxford, the Leadership Institute at the University of Southern California and the Center for Creative Leadership. His professional interests are in strategic leadership, labor-management collaboration, governance and policy, technology, and school and curricular reform.
