I am interested in how children learn mathematics and how we can use that information to teach them better, as well as how we can use that information in our interactions with pre- and in-service teachers. My research focuses on how children (8th grade Algebra 1 students) use fractional knowledge to make quantitative relationships in problems situations and how they state and solve equations with one unknowns using those quantitative relationships.
In addition to these, during my teaching experience at the University of Pittsburgh, I became interested in how pre-service teachers use of lesson plan help them focus on children they teach and their mathematical learning.
