The programs in Visual Impairment and Blindness at the Pitt School of Education are among the oldest and most well-respected vision programs in the United States.

We have prepared thousands of highly specialized teachers and specialists to serve the education and rehabilitation needs of children and adults who are blind or visually impaired.

There is substantial demand for professionals in this field—with positions far exceeding the number of qualified personnel available.

Our programs in Visual Impairment and Blindness give you the opportunity to earn single or dual certifications as Teachers of Students with Visual Impairment (TVI) or Orientation and Mobility Specialists (O&M). These certifications can be pursued independently or as part of our Master of Education degree in Vision Studies.

Students interested in our programs at the doctoral level may consider our PhD in Special Education. Graduates of this program have become leaders in the field of blindness and visual impairment by creating research that has made a significant impact on improving people’s lives.
