Upper-Level School

School of Education students must first complete their required prerequisites in the Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences before transferring into our programs.

Admission Guidelines for Undergraduates

  1. Submit an application as a first-year student through Pitt’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.
  2. You will select a program from the School of Education as your intended major.
  3. You will begin in Pitt’s Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences to take your required prerequisites.
  4. Tell your academic advisor that you plan on matriculating into one of the Pitt Education undergraduate programs, which will occur during your junior year.

In the spring year of your sophomore year, you will be eligible to submit a supplemental application to join the School of Education.

Undergraduate Degree Application:
  1. Completion of Prerequisite Coursework and Credits
    1. 48 credits – BS in Teacher Education and CASE Teacher Preparation
    2. 60 credits – BS in Applied Developmental Psychology and BS in Exercise Science
  2. Minimum GPA requirements:
    1. 3.0 GPA for CASE Teacher Preparation
    2. 3.0 GPA for BS in Teacher Education
    3. 2.5 GPA for BS in Applied Developmental Psychology and Exercise Science
  3. Goal Statement
    1. Only is required for the BS in Teacher Education and CASE Teacher Preparation programs

Undergraduate Major Application

Undergraduate Minor Application
  1. Complete brief form that includes a statement (250 words or less) on why you are interested in pursuing the minor

  1. Submit the University of Pittsburgh transfer application through Pitt’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.
  2. This will provide you with the Student ID number that is needed to complete the Pitt School of Education Supplemental Application

Need-Based Application Fee Waiver

First-year applicants may be eligible for a need-based application fee waiver due to:

  • Pell eligibility within the last three years
  • Recent participation in federal, state, or local programs that aid students from low-income families
  • Qualification for public assistance
  • Otherwise demonstrable financial hardship, including emergency expenses or unexpected medical bills

If you believe that you are eligible for a need-based fee waiver, please submit your request. Our admissions staff will review your request, and reach back out to assist you in completing your application. The School of Education reserves the right to request any necessary documentation.
