School of Education Shines in National and State Rankings

Recognized for excellence in academics, research, and the student experience

The University of Pittsburgh School of Education was ranked the No. 1 public institution in Pennsylvania by U.S. News & World Report as part of its “2025 Best Education Schools” list. Pitt Education has maintained this top position for several years in a row.

Pitt Education was also ranked No. 35 in the country among all graduate education colleges—public and private. Pitt’s Educational Psychology program, unranked last year, soared to No. 23 nationwide.

“Our school is proud to be recognized among the nation’s top education schools, which reflects the unparalleled dedication and excellence of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners,” said Eboni M. Zamani-Gallaher, professor and Renée and Richard Goldman Dean at Pitt Education. “We’ll continue to build on this momentum by further elevating our academic programs, investing in innovative research, seeking global engagement opportunities, and pursuing community-centered partnerships.”

Founded in 1910 and based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Pitt Education offers more than 50 graduate programs across teacher education and school leadership; exercise, health, and wellness; education systems and frameworks; and applied psychology and human development.

The school is home to several nationally recognized centers and offices, including the Center for Urban Education, Office of Child Development, and Physical Activity Research Center.

U.S. News & World Report collected data on more than 200 graduate colleges of education for the 2025 rankings. Institutions were evaluated on nine different factors, including quality assessment, faculty resources, research activity, and the student-to-faculty ratio.

Falling one spot from last year, Pitt Education was tied for No. 35 nationally, with Utah State University. In Pennsylvania, it was ranked ahead of Temple University (No. 40), Penn State University (No. 45), Lehigh University (No. 73), Drexel University (No. 125), Indiana University of Pennsylvania (No. 147), Duquesne University (No. 153), Slippery Rock University (No. 196), and Point Park University (No. 198).
