Alumna Kristin Shymoniak, a graduate in the MEd early intervention program and the special education certification program, has received The School Superintendents Association (AASA) and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Women in School Leadership Award. She is the lead special education teacher at Bancroft Elementary School in Alexandria, Va. Shymoniak, who was been teaching around seven years, was the youngest candidate in this year’s pool of candidates for the award.
The AASA Women in School Leadership Award “pays tribute to the talent, creativity, and vision of an outstanding woman educational administrator or teacher in the nation’s public schools. Each candidate is judged on the following criteria: Leadership for Learning, Communication, Professionalism and Community Involvement.”
AASA has released a video of Shymoniak discussing “what the honor means to her.”
