Dr. Sirry Alang is the Associate Dean for Equity and Justice, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Human Development. Additionally, she is serving as an Interim Co-Director of the school’s Center for Urban Education.
Dr. Alang earned her Ph.D. in Health Services Research, Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. She also obtained an M.A. in Sociology from Lehigh University and a B.Sc. in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Buea in Cameroon. Dr. Alang is a medical sociologist and a health services researcher interested in understanding and eliminating health inequities.

Dr. Alang’s research explores the role of social structures and institutions in creating inequities in health status and health outcomes. She is interested in how racism and other structures and mechanisms of exclusion shape health over the life course. To this end, her work focuses on the development of personal and institutional capacity to effectively engage in anti-racist practice and policy/program development necessary to improve the health of Black populations.
