Favorite spots on campus: Schenley Park! Great place to decompress and go for long walks after student teaching and class.
Favorite professors: Two of my favorite professors at Pitt have been Hillary Chelednik, whose passion for teaching and natural leadership skills create an engaging and motivating classroom environment, and Sally Sherman, whose wisdom and resilience continually inspire me. Both have left me feeling more encouraged, inspired, and motivated to become a teacher after every class.
Favorite thing about Pittsburgh: My favorite part about Pittsburgh is the pride everyone takes in being part of the Pitt community. Even when I’m back home in Philadelphia, if I’m wearing any sort of Pitt gear, someone always greets me with a “Hail to Pitt,” and I absolutely love that.
Post-graduate career plans: I plan to work as an early education or special education teacher!

Hometown: Beaver Falls, PA
Favorite spots on campus: The 35th floor of the Cathedral of Learning is my favorite spot on campus because it is quiet and has a clear view of the city. It is a good place to get work done or to take a break in between classes. Being up there makes me appreciate the campus and the city in a way I do not get from anywhere else.
Favorite professors: My favorite professor on campus is Dr. JoVonne Tabb, a Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice in Special Education Teaching and Leadership. She is not only a knowledgeable and engaging instructor but also someone who encourages her students to grow outside the classroom. Dr. Tabb has pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone and try new opportunities, which has made a big difference in my experience at Pitt. I admire the way she creates an environment where students feel supported while also being encouraged to push themselves. Her teaching style makes complex ideas easier to understand while challenging students to think critically, try new approaches, and apply what they learn in real-world situations.
Favorite thing about Pittsburgh: My favorite thing about Pittsburgh is how its neighborhoods each maintain a distinct identity while contributing to the city as a whole. Each area — from Lawrenceville to Squirrel Hill to the North Side — reflects its own history and culture. The way these neighborhoods interact and coexist demonstrates how the city is shaped by many small, interconnected communities, giving Pittsburgh its unique character we all love so dearly.
Post-graduate career plans: After graduation, I plan to teach biology at the secondary level, focusing on making science engaging and accessible for all students. Over time, I hope to earn a Master’s degree in education administration and take on leadership roles to help improve curriculum and support equitable science education in underserved schools.

Favorite spots on campus: The Petersen Events Center is my favorite place on Pitt’s campus. During the day, I enjoy studying by the large windows that overlook the city, which creates a motivating and inspiring atmosphere. It’s also convenient to grab a quick bite nearby. At night, the Petersen Events Center transforms into a place full of energy and school spirit, where I love cheering on the Pitt Panthers with the Oakland Zoo.
Favorite professors: My favorite professor at Pitt has been Dr. Ryan Pilcher, who taught a French class I took. He was extremely understanding and entertaining, and he kept me fully engaged throughout the course. I truly enjoyed his teaching style and learned so much from his class.
Favorite thing about Pittsburgh: My favorite thing about Pittsburgh is the sports, which I’ve loved ever since I was a kid. I also appreciate all of the opportunities the city offers, especially in healthcare. On top of that, there’s always something to do, whether it’s going to a festival, spending time with friends, cheering at a game, or going to a concert.
Post-graduate career plans: Pursue my Doctorate in Occupational Therapy
“I was stuck with a hard decision when choosing programs, but I chose the Pitt School of Education after meeting with an academic advisor who I felt truly understood me and had my best interest at heart. From that moment, I could sense how close-knit the community was, and it gives me a home-away-from-home feeling. My experience so far has been awesome, and I’m grateful to be part of such a supportive and welcoming environment.”

Favorite spots on campus: My favorite spot on campus is the grass by the Frick Fine Arts building. My friends and I love to hammock in the trees there. It’s the best during the end of Spring semester when the weather gets warmer and they turn the fountain on!
Favorite professors: Two of my favorite Pitt School of Education professors have been Kevin Felter and Elizabeth King. Their passion for and dedication to education was obvious and contagious. I felt affirmed and supported in my own enthusiasm for my future as an educator. My favorite part of learning from these professors is that they were both current elementary teachers in addition to university professors. They brought so much relevant knowledge and experience into our classroom. The opportunity to learn from people who are spend so much time in elementary classrooms and doing the work they are teaching us to do has been one of my favorite aspects of my education at Pitt.
Favorite thing about Pittsburgh: My favorite thing about Pittsburgh is that it feels like it has something for everybody. Between its history, sports, topography, educational institutions, museums, art, music, and more Pittsburgh has so much to offer! You can find something new to love every time you explore the city.
Post-graduate career plans: After graduation, I hope to teach 1st or 2nd grade in a public school. A goal of mine is to continue to be a lifelong learner throughout my career. There is always room to grow professionally and personally! Eventually, I would like to pursue a PhD in education.
“My whole life I have wanted to be a teacher. I have a passion for the value and beauty of education. I decided to join the Pitt School of Education because the faculty and students share that appreciation. I believe in its mission-vision of equity, justice, and innovation. In addition, the CASE program provides a unique experience and an incredible opportunity for field experience. Through observations and now through pre-student teaching I have learned so much about teaching, schools, students, and about myself. I can’t wait to learn more!”

Favorite spots on campus: One of my favorite spots on campus is Schenley Plaza! This is my go-to spot on a sunny day because I love to sit outside with friends to chat, catch up on homework, and even play a game or two of spike-ball! Another spot that is near and dear to my heart is the William Pitt Union Quad! The quad is always a good spot to see what’s going on around campus and make great memories!
Favorite professors: A professor in the School of Education who really impacted my experience at Pitt is Sally Sherman. I had Dr. Sherman in my Teaching Health and Wellness in Elementary Schools course, and it truly was the highlight of my spring semester. Dr. Sherman is one of the most dedicated and empowering people I have ever met, and she did an amazing job bringing that energy into the classroom.
Favorite thing about Pittsburgh: My favorite thing about Pittsburgh is the community! Everyone truly knows everyone. Pittsburgh’s love and passion for sports is is unmatched, bringing people together like one big family, whether it’s cheering on our Steelers, or our Pitt Panthers.
Post-graduate career plans: Following graduation, I hope to have my own elementary school classroom, where everyone is not only welcomed but also celebrated.
“When it was time to decide what college I would go to I had no doubt in my mind that Pitt was the place for me. Coming from a family where “Penn State” was a no-no word in our house, Pitt was always the number 1 goal. The School of Education has provided me with many opportunities that I am extremely grateful for. In the fall of my Junior year, I had the opportunity to complete my field experience at The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh. The time I spent here allowed me to truly know that the Education field is the place for me. The Pitt School of Education has shaped my experience in a positive light and I look forward to continuing my journey as a future educator.”

Favorite spots on campus: The lawn by Cathy is a great place to recline with a book or hang out with friends.
Favorite professors: I’ve had the pleasure of working with Dr. Caitlin Dahl and Dr. Anna Arlotta-Guerrero several times each, and they have been more than just excellent professors. Both of them have been friendly and compassionate to an incredible degree and have been supportive of me in my studies, thereby convincing me of my intended path.
Favorite thing about Pittsburgh: I love that everyone somehow knows everyone else! Pittsburgh is like a big small town.
Post-graduate career plans: Teach elementary or special ed in the greater Pittsburgh area.

Favorite spots on campus: The lawn of the Cathedral of Learning. I love all the trees, the lush grass, and seeing students playing games and hanging out.
Favorite professors: Dr. Lori Delale-O’Connor has been instrumental in opening my eyes to how we can introduce equity and social justice in research. In this way, she has encouraged my continued exploration of research methods and considerations for community-based work. Similarly, Dr. Linda DeAngelo, who is also my advisor, has supported and encouraged me to find my voice as a scholar and be confident in my motivations for the research I want to conduct.
Favorite thing about Pittsburgh: I love that it’s a city with a smaller-town vibe. There’s a plethora of things to do, but at the same time, I can get around town relatively easily, and my neighbors look out for me.
Post-graduate career plans: After graduation, I hope to become a faculty member at an institution that values equity, just like the School of Education. Also, I have a dream of owning a craft brewery, with programming to support the community.

Favorite spots on campus: While not a specific spot, my favorite physical part of campus is walking around in the Fall. I love seeing how beautiful the campus looks as the leaves change and how excited everyone is to be back together on campus.
Favorite professors: Pitt School of Education is full of professors who are truly remarkable. Dr. Hayley Weddle has been monumental in learning about methodology and writing, however, she has taught me even more about the type of instructor and mentor I want to be someday. Likewise, my advisor, Dr. Shannon Wanless, has been crucial in helping me mold my identity as a researcher and an instructor. I cannot overstate how important her support and guidance has been to me.
Favorite thing about Pittsburgh: I love how Pittsburgh is a city of neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has its own vibe and is fun to explore. Pittsburgh also has a fantastic sports scene, with the most important competition being The Great Pittsburgh Pierogy Race (go Jalepẽno Hannah)!
Post-graduate career plans: After graduation, I plan to pursue a university career that would allow me to teach and engage with students.
