Dr. Heather Hendry Annegan is an Associate Professor of Practice in Foreign Language Education. She currently teaches courses within the MAT and MEd Foreign Language Education programs that prepare pre-service teachers with PA certification, ESL endorsement, action research methods, high leverage teaching practices, and for teaching TESOL and EFL internationally. Many of Dr. Hendry’s advisees come from countries around the world. In addition to students from the United States, she has welcomed students from countries such as China, Korea, Lebanon, Jordan, Taiwan, and Russia.
Prior to joining the department, she received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Spanish and Native American Studies from Colgate University. She then earned her MAT and PhD in Foreign Language Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Her dissertation research utilized Activity Theory to examine the foreign language learning of three middle school students with Language Learning Disabilities. Dr. Hendry’s research interests fall within the areas of Literacy Development of Early Language Learners, Content-based Instruction, Foreign Language Learning of students with Language Learning Disabilities, High Leverage Teaching Practices in Foreign Language Education. and Identity Development of language learners and Teachers.
