Pitt Education Nationally Ranked in U.S. News & World Report
The University of Pittsburgh School of Education is ranked No. 39 in the country in the 2021 “Best Education Schools” ranking of U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, the school is again ranked as the No. 1 graduate school of education in Western Pennsylvania.
Highlighting Pitt Education’s position as one of the top schools in the country, the ranking is based on four metrics: a quality assessment score by peer institutions and educational professionals, student selectivity measures, faculty resources, and research activity.
Pitt Education was also recognized in a specialty ranking, as No. 22 in Educational Psychology. The school offers a range of programs in this area, including Applied Behavior Analysis, Applied Developmental Psychology, and Early Intervention.

Offering over 90 different degree and certificate programs, Pitt Education provides a wide range of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs in various formats, including in-person, hybrid, and online. Subject areas include teacher certification, educational leadership, vision studies, human development, and health and physical activity.
The school is also home to leading research centers and institutes, including the Center for Urban Education, Healthy Lifestyle Institute, and Office of Child Development. Each center produces novel research and is deeply engaged in community-driven partnerships across Western Pennsylvania and the world. For example, the Be Fit Pitt initiative of the Healthy Lifestyle Institute began live-streaming at-home fitness classes for the community in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
