Earn a master’s degree to bolster your capabilities as an emerging administrative leader in K-12 education.

The Master of Education (MEd) in School Leadership program will prepare you to lead schools in complex and uncertain times. You will be equipped with advanced training in institutional leadership, mental health and student safety, and a forward-thinking framework for equity and justice.

All students earning this MEd degree will complete the requirements for our K-12 Principal Certificate.  They will enroll in the degree program at the same time as completing the certificate program.

The Master of Education in School Leadership offers practical, real-world experiences to improve student learning and achievement based on cutting-edge research.

Professional Growth

The program is for the emerging education leader interested in an administrative position in K-12 education. MEd students ground their academic study in the personal and professional growth of aspiring school leaders in three themes: Ethics, Inquiry, and Integrity.

Internship and Capstone

Internship Experience: Each candidate for an educational leadership certification in Pennsylvania is linked with schools for 360 hours of University-supervised and principal-mentored internship/fieldwork experiences over the 12-month lifecycle of the school.

Capstone Project: Students in this program must successfully complete a Capstone project as part of their Master’s Research Seminar class

Prerequisites

  • Valid teaching certificate
  • Demonstrated teacher leadership in your school
  • Completed application for the K-12 certificate program and the master’s degree
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience (three years preferred) by the beginning of the program.

Curriculum

The MEd program is 30 credits. However, of that 18 credits will come from the K-12 Principal Certificate and 12 credits are additional through the MEd program.
