Four from Pitt Education Selected for Pittsburgh’s 40 Under 40 Awards

Two University of Pittsburgh School of Education students, one alumna, and a staff member were recognized in Pittsburgh Magazine and PUMP’s 2021 40 Under 40 Awards.

Now in its 23rd year, the annual awards highlight 40 local individuals who are under the age of 40 and who have made significant contributions to the City of Pittsburgh. According to the 40 under 40 website, each awardee’s “creativity, vision and passion enrich the Pittsburgh region.”

Pitt Education Awardees

Anthony D. Hall, a school counselor with Pittsburgh Public Schools currently at Pittsburgh Westinghouse, and Shenay Jeffrey, assistant director of the Office of PittServes – Division of Student Affairs, are students in the Doctor of Education (EdD) program.

Anette W. Nance, director of partnerships for family support at the school’s Office of Child Development, earned a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh in 2020.

Alydia R. Thomas, associate director of residence life for student development and programming at Duquesne University, earned her EdD from Pitt Education in 2018.

“I am delighted and so proud that three of this year’s 40 Under 40 winners are graduates or students of our EdD program,” says EdD program director and Associate Professor Thomas Akiva. “We are honored to work with these passionate leaders, who represent our School of Education and exemplify our mission to ignite learning, lead with integrity, and to disrupt and transform education.”
