Pitt Education Climbs in U.S. News 2022 Rankings of Best Online MEd Programs
The University of Pittsburgh School of Education was ranked No. 34 in the country in U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 rankings of “Best Online Master’s in Education Programs.”
Pitt Education improved 24 spots from the year before, when it was ranked No. 58 nationally.
For the 2022 rankings, U.S. News assessed 1,733 online degree programs and ranked 1,651—both all-time highs.
Schools were ranked in five categories: engagement, expert opinion, faculty credentials and training, services and technologies, and student excellence. Collectively, these metrics encompassed such factors as graduation rate, class size, retention rates, degree completion time, student debt, technological infrastructure and support, tenured faculty, and peer assessments from other education school officials.
“I am very happy to see our University of Pittsburgh School of Education recognized as one of the best education schools in the country in the 2022 edition of the U.S. News Best Online Master’s in Education programs ranking,” says Valerie Kinloch, professor and Renée and Richard Goldman Endowed Dean of Pitt Education.
“At Pitt Education, our mission-vision is to ignite learning, strive for well-being for all, and to disrupt and transform inequitable educational structures,” says Kinloch. “Online programs are essential to our mission-vision. We will continue to invest in and expand our online offerings to ensure that our academic programs attend to the growing needs and interests of students.”
In the U.S. News ranking, Pitt Education earned a total score of 86 out of 100, and finished ahead of such schools as the University of Arizona, Drexel University, George Mason University, Quinnipiac University, and George Washington University.
Pitt Education offers a variety of online and hybrid programs at the graduate degree and certificate level.
In fall 2021, the school launched a 100% online Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. The program is designed to support early-career teachers and other educators.
Pitt Education also offers the 12-credit STEAM Education Certificate and is developing a new certificate program in digital media and technology.
